Motor Racing Projects Rev Up For Production

Suddenly, two major projects about the golden era of motor racing. The first; a movie about the on-track rivalry between Niki Lauda and the late James Hunt. Entitled Rush, it is a project from Revolution Films, Working Title and Cross Creek Pictures, with Chris Hemsworth and Daniel Brühl expected to play Hunt and Lauda respectively. The project is due to get rolling in late 2011 with UK and Germany as locations. Ron Howard has been secured to direct the film.

Details about Rush come at the same time as Scott Free, Headline Pictures, Sennet Entertainment and FremantleMedia Enterprises are putting together a package for The Drivers, a lavish drama based on the high-octane 24 hour motor race in Le Mans during the 1950s/1960s.

Stewart Mackinnon at Headline Pictures believes the project, based on Wallace A. Wyss’ book, Shelby: The Man, The Cars, the Legend, has global appeal. "The Le Mans brand is well known and will help sell the show but at the heart of this is an exciting, compelling story about some of the most colourful & adventurous legends the racing world has seen."
