UKTV Seals Product Placement Deal With Brightsolid

PayTV broadcast UKTV, which is 50% owned by the BBC, has just struck a major new product placement deal with Brightsolid, the DC Thomson subsidiary which owns Friends Reunited and spin-offs Genes Reunited and Find My Past.

Under the terms of the deal, Brightsolid will fund a 10 x 60 series called Find My Past on UKTV’s Yesterday channel. In each episode, the show, which is being produced by Lion Television, will use the findmypast.co.uk website to focus on a famous moment – such as Dunkirk or the Jack the Ripper attacks. This will then be used as the starting point to connect "three seemingly unrelated members of the public".

Commenting on the deal, Sally Quick, Head of Commercial Partnerships at UKTV, said: "Findmypast.co.uk already has a commercial association with us as Yesterday's main sponsor, so finding and developing a genealogy TV format to co-fund has been a natural next step. Find My Past offers Brightsolid the perfect product placement opportunity as we're able to seamlessly integrate its websites into the content.”
