The VFX Advantage Conference: Making the Most of Visual Effects

  • News

Held at BAFTA on 11th March, the VFX Advantage one-day-conference is designed specifically for directors, cinematographers, producers and production managers.

It aims to offer the necessary knowledge to use VFX confidently and efficiently in the future, examining the power of visual effects. The conference is funded by the Skillset Film Skills Fund.

The conference's speakers will provide insight into the process of VFX production, including creative development, the impact on filming, budget considerations and how to engage with the UK's VFX specialists. In addition they will examine the subject of Stereo 3D and 2D to 3D Stereo conversion.

Among the speakers are the VFX facilities teams behind box-office hits such as Inception, Avatar, Harry Potter and Kick-Ass, revealing the opportunities created through integrating visible and invisible VFX into projects of all budgets and genres.

Also joining the speaker line-up is Gareth Edwards; director of lo-budget smash (Monsters) and next year's Hollywood re-make of Godzilla (Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures). Gareth will show how a strong working knowledge and understanding of VFX helped him achieve his creative vision, which led to his recent BAFTA nomination for Outstanding Debut as a British Director.

The conference promises to be an inspiring day packed with case studies, panel discussions and demonstrations and will conclude with a networking drinks reception for speakers and delegates. Attendees will receive a valuable source directory of UK VFX providers and a handy reference guide covering the basics of VFX.

The VFX Advantage conference is organised by the Directors Guild Trust and the Directors Guild of Great Britain with partners Skillset and BAFTA and supported by movieScope. The conference has been funded by the Skillset Film Skills Fund, as part of A Bigger Future 2.

The full conference programme will be announced shortly.
