Cats begins filming in the UK
Working Title Films’ starry feature version of Cats begins a 12-week shoot today.
With a cast including Jennifer Hudson, Taylor Swift, Rebel Wilson, James Corden, Ian McKellen, Judi Dench, Idris Elba, Jason Derulo and Laurie Davidson, the feature is helmed by Tom Hooper from a screenplay he wrote with Lee Hall.
Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical opened in the West End in 1981 and on Broadway the following year. It is based on TS Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats and centres on a tribe of cats called the Jellicles.
Cats is one of several projects on the slate at Working Title. The company is also working on an adaptation of Jane Austen’s Emma starring Lily James and Armie Hammer, and is moving forward with a new version of Rebecca with Free Fire director Ben Wheatley at the helm.
Other productions currently filming in and around London include Misbehaviour, Ironbark, Last Christmas and Toff Guys.
