Wimbledon Studios reopens for hire
After a short-term hiatus, Wimbledon Studios is back and open for hire again.
The facility has undergone a comprehensive redevelopment, with the new space now hosting two large purpose built sound stages of 7000 sq ft and 8000 sq ft, a refurbished roof and office space plus a site-wide power upgrade.
Adrian Wootton, chief executive of Film London and the British Film Commission, said of the new opening: “Studios are, of course, pivotal to the city’s success, and given the ever increasing demand from domestic and international productions, the reopening of London Wimbledon Studios couldn’t come at a better time.
“The added space and improvements to the site will boost the capital’s considerable offer, and it is sure to be another feather in London’s cap when it comes to attracting major film and television productions.” Â
The studio has welcomed an impressive collection of productions over the years, from long-running series The Bill famously having a standing set there, to major feature films such as The Iron Lady starring Meryl Streep and The Gunman featuring Sean Penn.
Production manager Chris Lahr said of his new experience in the renovated space: “My recent shoot at Wimbledon studios went brilliantly. I always liked the fact that the studio was such a versatile working space- thankfully it continues to be.”
