BBC One”s new feature-length adaptation of To Sir With Love is now eyeing an autumn shoot.

Filming on the 90-minute production from Rainmark Films had originally been pencilled in for the spring, but it has now pushed back.

Hanif Kureishi has adapted E R Braithwaite”s 1959 novel (famously adapted as a film starring Sidney Poitier in 1967) which is set in the east end of London just after the Second World War.

It centres on Ricky, a Guyanese engineer who finds work as a teacher and, despite racial prejudice, finds he makes a huge difference to the lives of the white working-class children under his tutelage.

We will be updating on PI nearer the time of filming as the rescheduling may entail a change of principal production hires.

Rainmark Films has a busy development slate, headlined by a major new TV drama from Steve McQueen, which is currently lining up for a 2017 shoot. The project will follow the lives of black Britons over several decades, starting from Enoch Powell’s Rivers of Blood speech in 1968.
