The Sense of an Ending eyes August shoot

Principal photography is due to start in mid-August on the big screen adaptation of Julian Barnes’ Man Booker Prize-winning novel The Sense of an Ending, published in 2011.

The story is told through the eyes of retired divorcee Tony Webster – played by Jim Broadbent in the film – regretfully looking back at his life and lack of ambition after receiving a lawyer’s letter detailing a strange legacy.

The film is from Origin Pictures and BBC Films, with Ritesh Batra (The Lunchbox) directing from a screenplay by Nick Payne. Origin’s David Thompson and Ed Rubin produce.

The project was announced as part of BBC Films’ 25th anniversary slate back in March. Since then on Production Intelligence we have detailed exact shoot dates and crucial hires such as the co-producer, casting director, production co-ordinator, production designer and production manager.
