The ten-part series is shooting in various locations in Cardiff and Wales

Filming is underway in Cardiff this week (w/c 19 May) on The Other Bennet Sister, a Regency drama set in the Pride and Prejudice universe. The series centres on Mary Bennet, based on the novel by Janice Hadlow, who is often overlooked among her siblings, as she embarks on an unexpected love story…

The 10 x 30′ drama is written by Sarah Quintrell, with Bad Wolf producing for BBC and BritBox.

At the time of the commissioning announcement, Quintrell stated: “I’m thrilled to be telling the story of Mary – the other Bennet sister – exploring what it is to come of age when you’re the odd one out. It’s a joy to be adapting Janice Hadlow’s brilliant take on such a beloved classic with the team at Bad Wolf.”

The executive producers are Kate Crowther, Becca Kinder and Jane Tranter for Bad Wolf, Rebecca Ferguson for the BBC, Quintrell and Hadlow. The series has been developed and overseen by Bad Wolf’s Dan McCulloch.

Tranter added: “Jane Austen created exactly the kind of smart, subtly subversive and groundbreaking women that Bad Wolf is proud to be associated with. Sarah’s dazzling scripts explore what hides beneath the surface of the overlooked Bennet sister, bringing her vividly to life for a television audience.

“The BBC’s long relationship with Jane Austen is unsurpassed and it’s particularly meaningful to be partnering with them on this next iteration of her life on screen.”

Bad Wolf and Creative Wales finalised a deal in 2024, supporting the prodco to make at least four projects in Wales by March 2027.
