First-look images have been released by the BBC of the second series of Dreaming Whilst Black, written by and starring Adjani Salmon.
The 6 x 30’ comedy is co-produced by A24 and UK-based indie Big Deal Films for BBC Three. The executive producers are Salmon, Ali Hughes and Big Deal Films’ Dhanny Joshi and Thomas Stogdon.
The series is directed by Sebastian Thiel and Abdou Cisse, and produced by Nicola Gregory. The commissioning editor for the BBC is Tanya Qureshi; it was commissioned by Jon Petrie, director of comedy commissioning at the BBC and Fiona Campbell, controller youth audience, iPlayer and BBC Three.
The second series finds Kwabena (played by Salmon) at the start of his professional career in a new era: the age of diversity, equity and inclusion, where empowering marginalised voices is seemingly at the top of everyone’s agenda – although this is not how it appears to Kwabs…
The show is adapted from the web series co-written by Salmon and Ali Hughes; the first series of Dreaming Whilst Black was nominated for several awards including the BAFTA TV categories of Scripted Comedy and Male Performance in a Comedy Programme.
Returning cast members include Dani Moseley as Amy, Demmy Ladipo as Maurice, Rachel Adedeji as Funmi and babirye bukilwa as Vanessa.
