Stella Artois perfects Wimbledon advert
Mother London has created a Wimbledon-themed advert for Stella Artois starring a pigeon-scaring hawk named Rufus. Part of The Perfectionists campaign, the cinematic spot marks Stella’s sponsorship of the tennis tournament until 2018.
With plenty of slow motion and close-up shots of the bird of prey, the advert tells the story of the hawk who has been scaring away birds at Wimbledon’s tennis championship since 2000. Matched with a romantic western score, it also features a sombre narration as if it is the hawk talking.
It was directed by James W Griffiths (Indy8), who won a BAFTA earlier in the year for his short film Room 8.
The film follows on from Wim Wenders’ Rules of Cinema Perfection, the first part of The Perfectionists series in which the director shares some of his moviemaking tips.
