Showtrial 2 to film in Belfast in November

The BBC has confirmed that a second series of World Productions’ courtroom drama Showtrial has been greenlit, this time to star Adeel Akhtar, Nathalie Armin and Michael Socha.
The series is written and created by Ben Richards, who said of the re-commission: “I am very grateful to the BBC for the opportunity to explore another sensational trial which I hope will be just as entertaining as our first outing.
“I love writing Showtrial and I’m honoured to have a cast of such high quality to deliver it.”
The second run, which was confirmed exclusively on Production Intelligence (PI) in May, comprises 5 x 60’ episodes, and will star Adeel Akhtar, Nathalie Armin and Michael Socha (pictured below).
It once again centres on a hotly contested criminal trial that divides the nation and takes place in the full glare of the media spotlight, asking if a fair trial can ever be possible when tensions run very high and public outrage reaches fever pitch…
PI subscribers have had details of the exact prep and shoot dates and the key department heads on board Showtrial 2.
Filming begins in Belfast in November, with support from Northern Ireland Screen. Julia Ford directs; Ken Horn produces. The executive producers are Simon Heath and Emma Luffingham for World Productions and Nawfal Faizullah for the BBC.
World Productions CEO Heath remarked: “Ben’s sharp, timely and provocative scripts have once again attracted a stellar cast to this new season of our Showtrial anthology. I can’t wait to see how Adeel, Nathalie and Michael bring to life Ben’s compelling triumvirate of lead characters.”
