Garai to play Vita Sackville-West in new film

Executive producer Simon Baxter has updated us on the progress of his film Vita and Virginia, with Romola Garai now attached to play Vita Sackville-West.

The feature centres on the love affair between author, poet and gardener Sackville-West and the novelist Virginia Woolf. Sackville-West married the writer and politician Harold Nicolson, with whom she had an open marriage. They were both closely involved with the Bloomsbury Group, of which Woolf was a member, and both enjoyed same-sex relationships.

Baxter, who recently worked on acclaimed commercials director Rob Sanders’ Petroleum Spirit, will executive produce the film, which is currently eyeing a September start.

Dutch director Sacha Polak will be calling the shots from a screenplay by Eileen Atkins, who has adapted it from her stage play of the same name. Baxter’s colleague at Mirror Productions, Evangelo Kioussis produces alongside Bill Shepherd, Atkins’ husband and producer of films such as Mrs Dalloway.

We will be updating this project over the coming months on Production Intelligence, our online database of advance and archive productions.
