A major new Outlander prequel will begin filming in Scotland towards the end of January.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood is from Sony Pictures Television for delivery to Starz, and is written by seasoned Outlander scribe and showrunner Matthew B Roberts.

The prequel drama will film partly in Glasgow, with the city council reporting road closures from this week.

It is expected that it may also use Wardpark Studios in Cumbernauld, home to Outlander; in late 2021 the studio was acquired by Hackman Capital and its affiliate the MBS Group.

The hefty 10 x 60 spin-off centres on the love story between Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, parents of Outlander protagonist Jamie, and is based on a new book by Diana Gabaldon.

Outlander first aired ten years ago, and raised the profile of Scotland’s varied filming locations – including the use of grand buildings in Glasgow to double as Boston – as well as boosting screen tourism from the show’s extensive fan base.
