North East Screen prepares next fam trips
The next trips are being lined up for October and November this year.
North East Screen is hosting a series of familiarisation trips (fam trips) called Scout Abouts, to showcase the region to location experts.
The location managers who toured the area in the spring had credits including House of the Dragon, Bridgerton, and No Time To Die. Among the locations they visited were Wynyard Hall (Love is Blind UK), Raby Estate (1917), and Bamburgh Castle (Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny), as well as the industrial landscapes of Tees Valley and beaches of Northumberland.
After attending a fam trip, one location manager said: “The North East has now been opened in my mind as a potential filming location where before I knew very little about it. Beamish [a living museum] was so unexpected, and I was really amazed by it. ”
Katie Strachan, film office manager, said: “As a busy Film Office we understand there is no better way to get a feel of an area or location than to visit in person.
“Our trips are aimed at esteemed Location Managers from outside the North East. It’s a chance for us to showcase not only all unique locations and varied landscapes but how filming friendly we are. It also offers the opportunity for our visitors to meet industry contacts, businesses and suppliers and get a better understanding of how we can best support productions filming in the region.”
The next series of Scout Abouts will take place in October and November. The October trip will have a Hallowe’en theme, spotlighting the region’s atmospheric locations, while the November trip will focus on period settings. Both trips will cover the length and breadth of the north-east, with final sites to be confirmed. More details can be found here.
Productions looking to film in the region can also apply for support from the North East Production Fund, designed to support high-end returning TV and major feature film productions in the region.
Recent productions to film in the area include Smoggie Queens and I Fought the Law, as well as the final series of Vera, which has showcased the regional locations for more than ten years.
