New studio space opens in London’s SE1
A new multimillion-pound media studio complex, available for hire, has opened in the heart of London.
The new studios were officially opened on 8 February by television executive and former chair of the BBC, Lord Michael Grade.
Housed at London South Bank University (LSBU), the new facilities at Elephant Studios feature everything from a film studio to a screening room and grading suites to a sound studio control room. All of which will be available for hire this summer.
Lord Grade said: “Elephant Studios at LSBU” is a £4m interlinked media space, offering high-specification production facilities at the forefront of digital technologies and multimedia practice.”
The opening of a new studio complex south of the Thames comes at a time when many studio spaces in London are being squeezed out under the pressure of soaring rents.
For students at LSBU, the studios are a chance to get hands-on with industry-leading kit, meaning graduates have the best possible employment outcomes in a fast-changing digital media landscape.
The opening of the studios follows an announcement from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport that the UK Creative Industries are worth a staggering £84.1bn to the UK economy. The development will enable young talent in their quest to enter this industry and keep it afloat in the years to come.
