Netflix original series The Crown set for 2016 debut
UK based Netflix original series The Crown has been officially confirmed and unveiled. Academy award nominated writer Peter Morgan’s time-spanning project is set to explore a deep perspective of Queen Elizabeth II and Britain’s post-war Prime Ministers.
The drama, inspired by Morgan’s award winning West End and Broadway play The Audience, will be produced by UK production company Left Bank Pictures in association with Sony Pictures TV. Academy award nominee Stephen Daldry is set to executive produce.
The first season is set to be a 10 episode arc and will premiere on the streaming service in 2016. Morgan and Daldry will be reunited with Left Bank Pictures’ MD Andy Harries, who also worked on award winning production The Queen.
The Crown, currently in development, will feature a minimum of three actresses portraying Queen Elizabeth II in her six decade rule. It is unclear whether Helen Mirren will reprise her 2007 Academy award winning role as the monarch.
