Evans and Hammer line up for Ben Wheatley
Acclaimed director Ben Wheatley is getting everything in place for a summer shoot on his next major feature project, Free Fire.
The 1970s-set action feature stars Luke Evans, Armie Hammer, Cillian Murphy, Brie Larson and Michael Smiley and centres on an arms deal that misfires. None other than Martin Scorsese is on board to executive produce.
The feature comes from Rook Films, founded by Wheatley and his producing partner Andy Starke in 2008. The pair has already built up an acclaimed clutch of credits, starting with Down Terrace (made in just eight days), then Kill List (also with Warp X), Sightseers and more recently, the supernatural period horror, A Field in England.
Wheatley also directed the first two episodes of series 8 of Doctor Who, having been a huge fan since childhood, and last year finished High-Rise, the Tom Hiddleston-starrer adapted from J.G. Ballard’s dystopian novel. Meanwhile, Starke was winning critical plaudits for his melodrama about a lepidopterist, The Duke of Burgundy.
