Laurel and Hardy film set for summer shoot
Stan and Ollie, the forthcoming big-screen film about Laurel and Hardy”s 1953 British tour is currently eyeing a summer shoot in the UK.
Earlier this week, the lead cast was announced, with Steve Coogan and John C. Reilly lined up to play the comedy legends.
The duo”s variety hall tour in 1953 came towards the end of their golden career, when their popularity was on the wane and their audience numbers dwindling. Their personal lives were also fraught with problems, including divorce battles and Hardy”s serious health issues.
Hardy went on to suffer a heart attack, but rallied to perform a few final live shows with his lifelong friend and partner.
Stan and Ollie has been in development for some years – we first listed it on PI over two years ago when it was originally intended as an in-house BBC Television production, and comes from acclaimed writer Jeff Pope.
Now under the auspices of BBC Films, Fable Pictures and Sonesta Films, the project will be directed by Jon S. Baird (Filth).
Subscribers to Production Intelligence should make sure they are following the project as we will be updating with crucial hires over the coming months. Non-subscribers can click here to request a demo.
