Knifeman sets up at West London Film Studios

Knifeman sets up at West London Film Studios

Major American pilot Knifeman is about to start shooting at the newly refurbished West London Film Studios.

From US broadcaster AMC, the period drama stars Tom Hollander and Daniel Mays and is based on Wendy Moore’s biography of renowned 18th  century Scottish surgeon John Hunter. Hollander plays Hunter with Mays as his brother Julian.

Based in London, Hunter became a pioneer in medicine with his meticulous methods of observation. But although he was deemed a visionary, he was also a rascal and a maverick, with his obsessive grasp on work often seen as arrogance.

Line producer Chris Thompson says the West London Film Studios provide “a decent sized base with stage space within the M25.”

The pilot follows in the footsteps of Galavant, another major US pilot from ABC which filmed earlier this year at Bristol’s Bottle Yard studios.

Knifeman becomes next in a long line of overseas productions drawn to the UK by the attractive tax incentives, great studios and a plethora of experienced crew.

With a raft of Hollywood films once again setting up in the UK this summer, including Tarzan, Mission: Impossible 5, Through the Looking Glass and a couple of other behemoth features still under wraps, it all bodes well for the UK film and TV industry.
