ITV Commissions UK Version Of The Marriage Ref
ITV has greenlit a local version of The Marriage Ref, the much-hyped US format fronted by comedian Jerry Seinfeld in its original incarnation on NBC. The UK version, to be produced by Endemol-owned Zeppotron, will be hosted by Dermot O’;Leary, best-known as host of The X Factor.
The show features real-life couples who are in love but have something ridiculous that they argue about. The host (Seinfeld/O’;Leary) and a panel of celebrities decide who’;s right in each domestic dispute – husband or wife.
ITV has ordered seven one-hour episodes from Zeppotron, which has also made hit panel shows such as Would I Lie To You? and 8 Out Of 10 Cats. ITV piloted The Marriage Ref in January with Jo Brand as host. However O’;Leary”s experience in mainstream primetime makes him a safer bet. According to The Sun, O’;Leary will be paid £250,000.
The seven episodes will be filmed in front of a live audience, and will appear as part of ITV’;s autumn/winter schedule.
