Gaumont UK develops Vogue drama

Gaumont UK is to develop a 1940s-set drama about Vogue”s wartime editor Audrey Withers.
The company has optioned Julie Summers” biography Dressed For War: The Story of Audrey Withers, Vogue editor extraordinaire from the Blitz to the Swinging Sixties.
Set in London, the drama – designed as a returning series – will explore how Withers” bold approach to journalism transformed an upper-class fashion magazine into a modern publication for women of all backgrounds, as well as her anarchic friendship with model-turned-war photographer Lee Miller.
Gaumont UK CEO and executive producer Alison Jackson (pictured in header shot) said; “It”s a privilege to bring Audrey”s work and world to life – once described as the ‘most powerful woman in London”, her influence on our world now is nothing short of extraordinary. She remains an inspirational woman, both in her public and private lives.
“Audrey fought against a patriarchal society designed to destroy her. She not only survived but thrived and therefore it couldn”t be more pertinent. It is hugely exciting that Julie has trusted us with this incredible biography, and we can”t wait to bring the story to life.”
“Across the globe, Gaumont are currently producing sixteen shows for various platforms, and we are absolutely honoured to add this incredible project from the UK office to our slate; a brilliantly British story for a home and international audience.”
