Derry Girls creator sets comedy thriller at C4
Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee (pictured, right) is re-teaming with Hat Trick Productions on a new Channel 4 comedy thriller set in Northern Ireland, How To Get To Heaven From Belfast.
The 8 x 60’ marks C4’s head of comedy Charlie Perkins’ first commission in the role since she took it up in June and is a collaboration between the channel’s drama and comedy offices.
The executive producers are Caroline Leddy, Liz Lewin and Jimmy Mulville.
How To Get to Heaven From Belfast centres on Saoirse, Robyn and Dara, thirty-something women who have been friends since their schooldays. All leading very different lives, the three find themselves caught up in a dark mystery after attending the wake of another old schoolfriend, where they discover that all may not be as it seems. A chaotic roadtrip ensues as they attempt to uncover the truth…
Perkins said: “We couldn’t be prouder that 4 feels like this extraordinary show’s spiritual home. Getting to know the multi hyphenated talents of Lisa, Liz, Caroline and their collaborators at Hat Trick Productions has been one of the greatest pleasures in my first year as head of comedy. We can’t wait to bring Lisa’s next world to life for all those who already love her work and many more to come.”
McGee added: “I feel so incredibly lucky to be making another show for the phenomenal Channel 4 and to be doing it with Hat Trick Productions again and the creative team behind Derry Girls, the mighty Liz Lewin and Caroline Leddy, is just a dream. I’ve wanted to make a comedy thriller set in Northern Ireland for SUCH a long time. I cannot wait to share these flawed funny women with everyone.”
