Celebrity Traitors renewed, franchise boosts Scottish economy by £21m
Viewing figures for the record-breaking final episode, that saw traitor Alan Carr crowned the winner, averaged 11.1m with a peak of 12m
The Celebrity Traitors has been greenlit for a second run following record-breaking audience figures for Series One.
The finale that aired last Thursday (6 November), averaged 11.1m with a peak of 12m, making it the biggest overnight audience across the market since Gavin & Stacey on Christmas Day last year, and biggest overnight share (81%) since the Euros last year.
Claudia Winkleman will return to host The Celebrity Traitors S2 when filming takes place next year at Ardross Castle. Studio Lambert Scotland produces; it was commissioned by Kalpna Patel-Knight, head of entertainment commissioning for the BBC.
The executive producers for Studio Lambert Scotland are Mike Cotton, Sarah Fay, Lewis Thurlow and Katy Fox with production executives Lynette Woods-Reynolds, Gemma Scholes and Faye Donaldson. The commissioning editors for the BBC are Neil McCallum and Michael Jochnowitz.
The announcement of the recommission coincides with the publication of a new Economic Impact Report, revealing that The Traitors franchise – including the UK, US, and celebrity editions – has generated an estimated £21.8 million boost in Gross Value Added (GVA) to Scotland’s economy since filming began in 2022.
The report, which includes contributions from Visit Scotland and Screen Scotland, highlights the show’s role in promoting opportunities for the industry in Scotland and also highlights that for every £1 of GVA directly generated by the production, a total of £6.84 was added to the Scottish economy overall.
Hayley Valentine, director BBC Scotland, said: “The Traitors is an immense TV success story and it’s fantastic to have multiple versions of it filmed in Scotland. We welcome and celebrate it. This report highlights the many ways that Scotland is seeing a direct economic benefit from The Traitors filming here and, working together with our partners, we will use this success to promote sustainable growth within Scotland’s creative industry.”
