Cameras ready to roll on Doctor Foster

Shooting starts next week on Doctor Foster, a shiny new drama starring Suranne Jones in the title role.

The 5 x 60 series sees Jones play a trusted local GP whose life seems orderly and fulfilling until she suspects her husband of having an affair. Her subsequent determination to get to the truth sees her life explode into chaos as secrets are uncovered and the repercussions spread across her family and patients. Bertie Carvel (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell) stars as her husband Simon.

Tom Vaughan directs Doctor Foster from scripts by Mike Bartlett, working alongside producer Grainne Marmion. The show comes from Drama Republic, the shingle behind award-winning The Honourable Woman and the forthcoming An Inspector Calls starring David Thewlis and Miranda Richardson, currently in production in York.

Jones said of her role in the project: “I am thrilled to be working with the Drama Republic team as An Honourable Woman was one of my favourite programmes from last year. I loved Mike Bartlett’s work before, King Charles III was really stunning and now I have this wonderful script that deals with very ‘human’ issues from marriage, motherhood, family, loyalty, pride, betrayal, and the very delicate subject of age…”

Followers of this project on Production Intelligence will know that we first announced this show almost exactly a year ago, and have since updated with further names including the line producer, casting director, location manager and production co-ordinator.

Production Intelligence now has nearly 6,000 entries, with details of feature films, dramas, factual and entertainment shows, at all stages of production from development to completion.
