BBC Future Formats Delivers Cloned to BBC1

BBC One has announced the commission of “a non-transmission pilot” of Cloned, an original gameshow developed by the BBC”s Future Formats team.

Future Formats is a new BBC Entertainment and BBC Worldwide initiative which sees eight people new to television build skills in creating, developing and pitching formats. Cloned was devised by George Hutton and sees four contestants try to outwit celebrity clones in a series of challenges. It will be produced using a mixture of innovative green screen and post-production techniques to clone its celebrity guests and create the challenges.

Kate Phillips, Head of Future Formats, said: “I’;m so pleased that BBC Entertainment’;s first Future Formats has resulted in this pilot. Nearly all the students are working as researchers in and outside the BBC and these successes are down to their hard work and creativity over the past few months.”

Cloned is a BBC Entertainment production. It will be produced by Nick Johns and executive produced by creative director of BBC Entertainment & Events Derek McLean for the BBC. Karl Warner, BBC Executive Editor Entertainment Commissioning, added: “Cloned is an exciting new format which pushes the boundaries of production and game show mechanics. I’;m delighted it was originated by a young talent base within the BBC and think George will be one to watch for the future.”
