Applications open for WFTV Kay Mellor Screenwriters’ Lab

The programme is aimed at supporting female screenwriters
Applications are open at Women in Film and Television UK (WFTV) for the 2025 Kay Mellor Screenwriters’ Lab, a programme aimed at supporting female screenwriters.
The initiative provides an opportunity for writers to develop their scripts in a supportive environment while receiving insights from industry professionals.
The announcement follows the showcase of the 2024 cohort, led by screenwriter Lisa Holdsworth and producer Carol Harding, who presented their work at the recent Script Showcase in London.
The lab will return to The Hurst in Shropshire for a week of workshops in September 2025. Katie Bailiff, CEO at WFTV, commented: “Kay Mellor’s legacy as a champion for women in film and television and commitment to nurturing new talent endures in the annual screenwriters’ labs.
“WFTV takes pride in being able to foster emerging writers and playing a small role in their sparkling futures. Seeing the 2024 cohorts’ writing performed at the Script Showcase was a brilliant experience and we are looking forward to seeing what the 2025 cohort brings.”
Applications are open now and will close at 5 pm on Monday, 12 May. Click here for full details on the programme and how to apply.
