Fightland is the first international drama from Curtis Jackson’s US-based production company G-Unit

Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson’s G-Unit Film & Television is producing a UK-based boxing drama for Starz, alongside London prodco Expanded Media.

Due to film in the UK this autumn, Fightland is an eight-part series set in the cut-throat, high-stakes world of pugilism. It follows a disgraced former boxing champion who returns to London to seek vengeance against the crime family whom he believes betrayed him.

Rapper-turned producer Jackson executive produces alongside Francis Hopkinson and Kate Leadbetter of Expanded Media, who will also produce. Damione Macedon and Raphael Jackson Jr. serve as showrunners, executive producers and writers; Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan and Marlon Smith are also executive producers and writers.

Jackson said of the greenlight: “Fightland marks my first internationally produced show through my G-Unit Film & Television. I am excited to bring that global energy to the screen. I anticipate this to be more successful than anything I’ve done before—boxing’s raw stakes are gonna take it to another level.”

Starz, recently separated from Lionsgate, said the commission illustrates the network’s push into building up an owned-IP-driven slate of premium originals for underrepresented audiences, with Kathryn Busby, president of original programming for Starz, saying the show is: “ the kind of unapologetically visceral, premium storytelling that STARZ is known for, and we believe that each dramatic round of this compelling drama will leave fans wanting more.”
