It”s been another busy year for film and TV production crew around the UK.

From big-budget US movies to home-grown TV favourites, via several high-end TV dramas and international co-productions, the industry has been enjoying a purple patch.

With the help of our subscription database Production Intelligence, we take a look at some of the films and TV projects due to wrap between now and Christmas, just in time for crew to get back home and hang up their stockings…

Film

American Assassin
CBS Films” American Assassin started filming in the UK in mid-September and shot for nine weeks before moving on to Italy. Starring Michael Keaton, Dylan O”Brien and Taylor Kitsch, the thriller is based on Vince Flynn”s novel about Cold War veteran Stan Hurley, now a CIA training officer.

We first listed the project on PI back in June, and returned with updates on UK HODs over the following weeks. Filming is due to wrap just a couple of days before Christmas.

Where Hands Touch
Director Amma Asante”s latest project, Where Hands Touch, started filming in late October in Belgium before moving on to The Isle of Man in early December; the project wraps this week. We first listed the film on PI in April.

The Second World War drama follows a relationship between a mixed race German girl and an SS officer in Berlin and stars George McKay and Amandla Stenberg. Asante directs from her own screenplay.

Journey”s End
December 16 also sees the end of filming on Journey”s End, which commenced principal photography in early November at Pinewood Studios Wales.

The film is a big-screen adaptation of the play by R.C Sherriff, based on his experiences as a captain during WWI and stars Sam Claflin, Paul Bettany, Asa Butterfield and Toby Jones.

Producers Guy de Beaujeu and Simon Reade of Fluidity Films have been spearheading the project for years, having encountered legal wrangle on the way. We first detailed Journey”s End on PI back in June 2014.

Finding Your Feet
Richard Loncraine is directing Finding Your Feet, starring Imelda Staunton, Celia Imrie, Joanna Lumley, Timothy Spall and David Hayman.

Filming on the feature got underway at the end of October at Twickenham Studios, with some of the eight-week shoot taking place in Rome. Meg Leonard and Nick Moorcroft have written the screenplay; they are also among the sizeable producing team. Finding Your Feet was first listed on PI in June 2015.

TV

Britannia
Due to finish up just a few days before Christmas is Britannia, a whopping 10 x 60 TV drama about the birth of Britain from Roman times onwards.

A co-production between Vertigo Films and Neal Street Productions, the shoot only spent about ten days in the UK – Wales – with the rest based in Prague.

First listed on PI over a year ago, we covered Britannia on or site as it is UK-made, employing several UK HoDs. Kelly Reilly and David Morrissey star.

Clique
Clique is a home-grown drama series which began a 12-week shoot in mid-September in Edinburgh.

The 6 x 45 is for BBC Three and centres on childhood friends Georgia and Holly as they begin their student life at a university in Scotland. Synnove Karlsen, Aisling Franciosi and Louise Brealey star. PI first reported on Clique in January.

King Charles III
Yorkshire has been playing host to King Charles III, a TV adaptation of Mike Bartlett’s Olivier award-winning ‘future history” play written in blank verse which sees Prince Charles ascend to the throne following the Queen’s death.

The feature-length drama is from Drama Republic for delivery to BBC Two. It stars Charlotte Riley, Tim Pigott-Smith, Oliver Chris, Richard Goulding and Margot Leicester.

Theatre supremo Rupert Goold, who directed the acclaimed stage version, is at the helm. Further details have been on PI since March.

Broken
Filming ends on 16 December on Broken, a 6 x 60 for BBC One starring Sean Bean as Father Michael Kerrigan, a Catholic priest struggling with his faith in modern Britain.

Set and filmed in Liverpool, the drama comes from producer Colin McKeown”s LA Productions. Anna Friel co-stars.

Broken, which we first listed on PI in January, is the latest in a long list of productions to make their base in Liverpool this year.

Grantchester 3
Bucolic ITV drama Grantchester has been filming in Cambridgeshire since September with James Norton reprising his role as the crime-fighting Anglican vicar and former Scots guards officer.

Daisy Coulam adapts the Kudos show from the Grantchester Mysteries books by James Runcie. The three-month shoot on Series 3 ends on 20 December, and incorporates a Christmas special.

Doctor Foster 2
Suranne Jones returns as the eponymous GP in the second series of Doctor Foster which began filming in mid-September. Shooting ends on 16 December on the 5 x 60 drama for BBC One, which is once again penned by Mike Bartlett.

Executive producers are Drama Republic”s Greg Brenman and Jude Liknaitsky, working alongside the BBC”s Matthew Read. Doctor Foster 2 was first listed on PI in November 2015.
