Moving from production into post…
It’s been another busy month for film and TV production, so we thought we’d take a look at some of the projects which have recently finished shooting, or are very nearly in the can. So, in no particular order, here we go…

A children’s classic
Arthur Ransome’s classic children’s novel, Swallows and Amazons, is making its way onto the big screen, having wrapped its north-west based shoot in mid-August. Philippa Lowthorpe directed from Andrea Gibb’s screenplay; the cast is led by Rafe Spall and Kelly Macdonald, with back up from Jessica Hynes, Harry Enfield, Gwendoline Christie and Andrew Scott.

Live action Disney
Big budget Hollywood remakes of classic cartoon features are de rigueur, with Beauty and the Beast joining the line-up. Shooting began in May on the film, which stars Emma Watson as Belle and Dan Stevens as the Beast. A stellar cast consisting of Luke Evans, Emma Thompson, Kevin Kline, Ian McKellen, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ewan McGregor and Stanley Tucci provide support. Bill Condon (Mr. Holmes) directs this Mandeville Pictures/Disney blockbuster.

Real life drama
The dreadful events that played out at London’s Iranian embassy in 1980 are portrayed on the big screen in 6 Days, a feature from New Zealand director Toa Fraser and producer Matthew Metcalfe. Jamie Bell and Abbie Cornish star – their efforts to recreate the situation no doubt helped by the former SAS member who were involved as consultants on the film. Although a good chunk was shot in NZ, London hosted a stint of filming on this portrayal of a crucial moment in the city’s history.

Spielberg’s giant hit?
They don’t come much bigger than Spielberg and the director’s latest project, The BFG, will no doubt prove a major hit. Adapted from Roald Dahl’s much-loved book, the feature used various northern Europe locations and stopped over in the UK to use London and the Scottish Highlands for three weeks from late June. Mark Rylance plays the big friendly giant to newcomer Ruby Barnhill’s Sophie – a role that is sure to be a life changer for the 11 year-old.
