ITV recommissions Karen Pirie

ITV has greenlit a second series of Scottish crime drama Karen Pirie, starring Lauren Lyle as the eponymous investigator.
The World Productions series will film in Scotland early next year, and is based on A Darker Domain, the second in Val McDermid’s series of cold-case novels centring on the young detective sergeant.
Emer Kenny returns to write the 3 x 120 run, and is joined by Gillian Roger Park. Kenny also exec produces alongside World’s Simon Heath.
Kenny is a writer and actress whose credits include the acclaimed Sky’s Save Me Too, Channel 4’s The Curse and Netflix’s The Bastard Son & The Devil Himself. She also stars in Karen Pirie, as the detective’s best friend and confidante, River Wilde.
Kenny commented: “The first series of Karen Pirie was a true labour of love, so it was thrilling to receive such an amazing response from audiences. That reaction has meant we’ve been asked back to make more, and we will happily oblige – the second book is partially set in Tuscany, and we all fancy the trip!
“Thank you to everyone who watched our show, and to ITV for ordering a second round. We’ll endeavour to bring you something refreshing and riveting (with lovely Italian views).”
McDermid said: “I know the millions of viewers all over the world who loved the first Karen Pirie series will be as thrilled at this news as I am. I can’t wait to see how the team bring the next book, A Darker Domain, to life!”
