The Knowledge at 40 – book your place in production history!

The Knowledge production services directory was first published in 1986
Robert Pattinson, Jessica Gunning, Gemma Arterton, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Jamie Bell, Ryan Coogler – just some of the famous names turning 40 next year. Oh, and The Knowledge…
Yes, The Knowledge book was founded in 1986, by three production assistants who decided to pool their extensive contact books and publish the definitive production services directory.
The book was a hit from the start, and provided a backdrop for the milestones in publishing over the decades. At the outset, entries were checked by snail mail and cheques would fall through the letterbox. Then came the fax – oh so speedy at the time – and then, the advent of the CD-ROM and the Book of Credits.
The website arrived in 2000 with entrants able to update their own profiles, and in 2012 the high-end subscription service Production Intelligence was born. Another specialist spin-off, World of Studios UK, was first published in 2022 to great acclaim, with the fifth issue due out In December this year.
Today’s Knowledge has more than 15,000 entries for companies, crew, service providers and suppliers, across 500 categories, and is considered the one-stop, essential directory for anyone working in UK production. The book is seen by key department heads, budget-holders and decision-makers in production, and has a controlled circulation of 2,500.
Copies are also distributed at major industry events including MPTS, that had more than 13,000 visitors this year.
