UK IN FOCUS 2016
Lee Valley VeloPark in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is home to one of London’s
newest iconic buildings. Built in 2011, the award-winning velodrome has already
established its place in sporting history, hosting the Olympic and Paralympic track cycling
events in the London 2012 Games. While this image was taken before the park reopened,
the velodrome is now surrounded by green slopes and flowers, and has retained its air of
futuristic majesty; the roof, designed to echo the curves and flow of the cycle track, has a
space-age feel, while the building’s 360-degree concourse provides views across the
ever-changing face of the Olympic Park.
