Zadie Smith’s NW films next week

Zadie Smith A 20-day shoot gets underway next week on the small screen adaptation of Zadie Smith’s NW

Adapted by Rachel Bennette (Bel Ami, Ripper Street) from Smith’s 2012 novel, the story centres on four different characters living in north-west London – the postcode of the title – as they forge their adult lives away from the council estate where they grew up. The book was nominated for the 2013 Women’s Prize for Fiction.

The production will be delivered to BBC Two as a single, feature-length drama. It comes from prolific shingle Mammoth Screen which, as well as having several projects on its busy development slate, is currently also in production on the fourth series of Endeavour

We first listed NW on PI in early February, and have since updated with news on the main HoDs including the line producer, production designer and casting director. Filming locations include north-west London and Kingston-upon-Thames.

PI subscribers can log in for details on all Mammoth Screen’s projects; non-subscribers can click here for a demo during which they will be shown remotely round the site.
