Star Wars effect boosts Pinewood's record year
There is no doubt that the film and TV industry in the UK is looking very healthy indeed, with Pinewood's new revenue figures illustrating the boom nicely.
Pinewood Group plc has officially reported revenue of £75m - an increase of over £10m from the previous year. Its operating profit stands at £5.8m, up from £4.9m in 2014. Â
The world famous studio group, which encompasses Shepperton as well as international outposts in Iskandar, Toronto, Atlanta, Wales and the Dominican Republic, has also enjoyed a record year with regard to the profile of the films it has hosted recently.
Top of the tree is the behemoth Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens which, combined with Avengers: Age of Ultron and James Bond's 24th excursion, Spectre, have all helped ramp up the revenue.
Pinewood's chief executive, Ivan Dunleavy, said of the news:  "Pinewood is a uniquely positioned independent operator and has once again delivered strong growth…
"… construction has begun on the first phase of the Pinewood expansion. This is an exciting development for the Group and we are pleased with the support and commitment given to us through the placing.
"Although we have hosted the three largest film productions of the year [see above], we continue to be unable to meet all the demand from large films. This will be partly addressed by the first phase of the Pinewood expansion.
"We are encouraged that the current financial year has got off to a strong start with good visibility into the coming year."
