Rachel Weisz joins Tom Wilkinson on Denial

A UK crew is assembling for an end-of-year London-based shoot on Denial, starring Tom Wilkinson and Rachel Weisz.

Weisz replaces Hilary Swank, who had previously been attached to the feature, which comes from LA-based producers Russ Krasnoff and Gary Foster of Krasnoff Foster Productions. Shoebox Films executive produce; Mick Jackson is at the helm to direct.

Acclaimed playwright and screenwriter David Hare has penned the film, based on Deborah E Lipstadt’s book History on Trial: My Day in Court With a Holocaust Denier, which follows the author’s legal battle with David Irving.

The libel case brought by Irving against the American historian – who had declared Irving a Holocaust denier – was significant in that the onus of proof was on Lipstadt and her team to prove that the Holocaust had taken place. The court ruled that Irving was an active Holocaust denier and that his books had distorted Hitler’s role to present it in a more positive light.
