Popular film location goes up for auction
It may not be the most aesthetically pleasing of sites but the coarse, rocky landscape of the privately owned Trefil Quarry in Wales, where Clash of the Titans 2 was shot, could potentially be a lucrative investment.
The 220-acre Trefil Quarry in Gwent, will be auctioned off next month. The well-known landmark regularly attracts major productions with its unique look and feel.
In the past, the quarry has been used as a location for the BBC's Dr Who and Merlin, and big budget movie The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In 2011, a litany of stars descended on the location, transforming it into a derelict temple for the filming of the Warner Bros. production, Clash of the Titans 2: Wrath of the Titans. Along with Liam Neeson the film starred Ralph Fiennes, Sam Worthington, Rosamund Pike, Bill Nighy and Sinead Cusack.
With a starting price of above £45,000 it would of course be the new owner's choice whether they still want to keep the site as a filming location. Its reputation as a film location however, would make its use in that regard as a solid revenue earning option.
The location at Trefil will be going under the hammer as lot 56 at the next Paul Fosh Auction in Cardiff.
With the opening of Pinewood's new facility in Wales due in the new year, perhaps the studio should look into bidding for this one…
