The Night Manager team plans new drama

The Night ManagerAfter their successful collaboration on The Night Manager, the BBC and AMC will re-team with The Ink Factory for TV drama The Spy, an adaptation of John le Carré’s Cold War novel The Spy Who Came in From the Cold.

Set in 1962, The Spy is set shortly after the building of the Berlin Wall and follows a British spy who is given the chance to take revenge on an East German counter-intelligence officer.

The companies' previous partnership on acclaimed miniseries The Night Manager (pictured) pitched Tom Hiddleston’s morally-centred hotelier and Olivia Colman’s driven intelligence officer against Hugh Laurie’s ruthless arms dealer. All three actors won Golden Globe awards for their work.

“We are thrilled to be teaming again with AMC and the BBC to adapt this extraordinary work for television,” said Simon Cornwell, co-CEO of production company The Ink Factory, regarding The Spy. “It’s wonderful to have the opportunity to build on the relationships that delivered The Night Manager to an audience worldwide.

“The Spy Who Came in From the Cold is an utterly gripping story, and one of the great books of the twentieth century. We are looking forward enormously to bringing it to a twenty-first century audience.”

Le Carré’s 1963 novel was first brought to the screen two years later as a film directed by Martin Ritt with Richard Burton in the lead.
