Hamish Mykura, recently-departed head of documentaries at Channel 4, has been appointed as executive VP and head of international content for National Geographic Channels International (NGCI). Based in London, he will also be head of global development for National Geographic Channel (NGC).

Mykura will report to Hernan Lopez, CEO of NGCI and Fox International Channels and Michael Cascio, exec VP of content for NGC in the US. Commenting on the appointment, Lopez said: “With more than 20 years of experience in the television industry, Hamish brings outstanding insight and vision to NGCI. Working closely with NGCI regional programmers and UK-based production houses, he will build upon a solid foundation to bring new viewers to the National Geographic brand.”

David Lyle, CEO of NG Channels US, added that: “Expanding our development presence in the UK is key to our strategy of reaching out to the production community globally and forming more partnerships to produce the best programming for our channels. Hamish is the perfect person to be leading this charge for us.”

Mykura’s move comes at a time when C4 is the midst of huge overhaul of its executive line-up. The latest departures are education commissioner Jo Twist and sponsorship chief David Charlesworth. Coming the other way through the revolving door is Sophie Gardiner, who has left Impossible Pictures to become a drama commissioning editor at C4. Gardiner’s arrival follows the recent departure of Camilla Campbell to Noho.
