PI - highlights of 2017

Doctor Foster Production Intelligence has enjoyed another very busy year, with more than 935 productions added to our subscriber database.

So we celebrate the end of the year with a little festive trumpet-blowing as we begin a look back over 2017 with some of the news breaks and exclusives brought to you by PI.

Off to a flying start

The year started with a period feature from The Lobster director Yorgos Lanthimos. The Favourite, which stars Emma Stone, Olivia Colman and Rachel Weisz, had previously been on hiatus and we were the first to bring you details of the new HoDs, revised shoot dates and location news when we published it on PI in early January 2017.

Any Sally Wainwright drama is big news nowadays and in early January PI brought exclusive word of a new Wainwright project, then called Shibden. Now titled Gentleman Jack, the BBC One 8 x 60 is set to star Suranne Jones (pictured above) as 19th century Yorkshire diarist Anne Lister.

With filming due to begin in the spring of 2018, PI currently has the producer’s name listed, with plenty more details still to come.

Electric Dreams Channel 4 announced a major international anthology drama in January. PI was first with the news that Philip K Dick’s Electric Dreams would shoot here in the UK and we immediately confirmed details of a range of key HoDs including the line producer, production designer and location manager.

Production Intelligence was days ahead of the official press announcement when we brought news on Gone, a Sky Atlantic drama from World Productions starring Lennie James and Suranne Jones.

Subscribers soon had a comprehensive round-up on the main production personnel attached.

Disney leads the way

Disney set up shop in the UK once again as Aladdin rumbled into pre-production in March. PI subscribers were the first to see that shooting would take place in the UK. As soft prep got underway in February on the Guy Ritchie-helmed feature, we provided the names of the UK UPM, co-producer and executive producer.

Johnny English returned this year in a third film starring Rowan Atkinson as the bumbling spy. Back in February, PI was the first site to confirm that the Working Title film was in the pipeline, a full six months before principal photography began.. We then updated with key HoDs and shoot dates along the way.

Christopher EcclestonWriter Danny Brocklehurst and Red Production Company have worked together on several projects in recent years and in February we brought you news of a new collaboration for BBC One, Come Home

Starring Christopher Eccleston and Paula Malcolm, filming began in Northern Ireland in the autumn, some eight months after we published the first mention. We soon followed up with HoD names such as the producer and production designer.

Look out for the next instalment of our highlights round-up, coming soon.
