Will Ferrell gears up to play Sherlock Holmes
Holmes and Watson, the new big-screen take on Conan Doyle’s famous sleuth, starts shooting at a UK studio in the next couple of weeks with Will Ferrell and John C Reilly as the detective and his sidekick.
Rob Brydon is attached to play Inspector Lestrade with Kelly Macdonald as Mrs Hudson; Rebecca Hall and Lauren Lapkus are also among the cast.
Etan Cohen is directing the film from his own screenplay. PI subscribers can find the studio details along with key hires on the project including the UPM, production designer, location manager and production co-ordinator.
The literary creations of Holmes and Watson continue to provide an evergreen source of material for filmmakers and TV producers. Robert Downey Jr’s long-gestating third film in the series of features about Sherlock Holmes is moving forward, with a team of writers on board and Guy Ritchie reportedly attached to direct.
In October this year, the fifth season of Elementary premiered on CBS in the US, with Jonny Lee Miller as Holmes and Lucy Liu as Watson.
The BBC’s fourth series of Sherlock starring Benedict Cumberbatch began a four-month shoot in April this year in locations including Tenby, Pembrokeshire, where St Catherine’s Island, home to a disused fort, was used. The first episode is due to air on New Year’s Day 2017.
