End of year, end of filming

Ab Fab The MovieA couple of weeks ago we presented part one of our round up of just some of the films and TV dramas which have recently wrapped, or are just about to, with a peek at some of the locations used and a nod to some of the post-production companies attached.

Here is our second batch, not intended to be completely comprehensive, but rather our pick of some of the plum projects, starting with film...

The Lost City of Z

Charlie Hunnam, Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller star in the Lost City of Z, which we first detailed in early August. Belfast and Colombia were the main locations for the ten-week shoot on this period feature, which is based on the true story of the disappearance of Col. Percy Harrison Fawcett in 1925. LA-based MICA Entertainment is the main production company behind the project.

Modern Life is Rubbish

Filming started in mid-October at 3 Mills on Modern Life is Rubbish, a feature from producer Dominic Norris of Serotonin Films and director Daniel Gill. Freya Mavor and Josh Whitehouse star in the romantic comedy, developed form a short, about a couple's break-up after ten years together, as they divide up the music collection which has defined key moments in their lives.  LipSync are on post duties, with shooting ending late November.

Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie

Patsy and Eddie are back - and this time on the big screen. Last spotted filming in the south of France, Joanna Lumley and Jennifer Saunders are both reprising their famous role in Absolutely Fabulous: The Movie, which began a seven-week shoot in France and London on 7 October. Post-production by Molinare.

TV

As with our last feature, we are not going to go into detail with the returning shows, which include The Musketeers, back to swash some buckle for the third time, the second series of Grantchester, the 19th run of Silent Witness and the return of Ashley Jensen as Agatha Raisin in the quirky crime drama of the same name.

Thirteen

So, that leaves us with some shiny new dramas to take a look at, starting with the BBC’s Thirteen. Made in-house by BBC Drama, the 5 x 60 shot mainly on location in Bristol over 14 weeks from late July. The psychological drama is about Ivy Moxham, a 26 year-old woman who escapes from the cellar that has been her prison for 13 years. Jodie Comer stars with Aneurin Barnard.

The Secret Agent

An eight-week shoot began on 21 September on The Secret Agent, a major new adaptation of the Joseph Conrad novel by BAFTA-winning scribe Tony Marchant. With the production office based in Edinburgh, the 3 x 60 for BBC One has also filmed scenes in London and Glasgow. There’s a stellar line-up on this one, led by Toby Jones, Vicky McClure, Stephen Graham and Ian Hart.

New Blood

A contemporary drama about a pair of junior investigators Stefan and Rash is in the pipeline at Eleventh Hour Films. A 12 x 60 for BBC One, the production began shooting in late August for 12 weeks in east London.  Mark Strepan and Ben Tavassoli star, with support from Anna Chancellor and Mark Addy. Post-production goes to Encore.

Billionaire Boy

David Walliams’ latest adaptation of one of his books, Billionaire Boy, is heading for the edit suite. The one-off drama for BBC One is about Joe Spud, the richest boy in the country who lacks just one thing: a friend. Walliams stars with John Thomson, James Fleet, Rebecca Front and Elliot Sprakes as Joe. The production used northern locations including Rotherham and Sheffield, and will be aired at Christmas.
