Fortitude prepares to film series two

With the second series of Fortitude deep into pre-production, shoot dates have now been confirmed on the icy drama.

The shoot will once again take place over six months beginning in mid-January. The start date can be found on Production Intelligence along with the names of crucial UK hires such as casting director, location manager, production designer, line producer, production co-ordinator and production manager.

The executive producers on the show are Fifty Fathoms‘ Patrick Spence and Frith Tiplady, Lizzie Gray, Anne Mensah and the show’s creator Simon Donald.

Donald originally had the series in mind as a feature, but when he approached Spence with it, the latter thought would sit better as a long form TV drama. The resulting first series comprised 10 episodes and averaged 1.69 million viewers a week for Sky Atlantic.

Although it appears as if the whole series is shot in the Arctic town, just under half the filming time per block uses the Icelandic locations.

The crew this year must be hoping for better luck with the weather in Iceland, as previously they hit the one very rare time when rain came down and washed away all the snow, just a day before filming began…
