Depp and Streep - together on screen?

Into The WoodsA major new Hollywood version of the Sondheim musical Into the Woods is bedding in at Shepperton Studios in preparation for a September shoot.

At the helm is big gun director Rob Marshall, who has form when it comes to big screen versions of stage musicals - his version of Chicago in 2002 garnered multiple gongs, including six Oscars.

Reports suggest that Into the Woods will boast a stellar cast, headed by Johnny Depp (marking his second sojourn with Sondheim, following Sweeney Todd), with Meryl Streep and Chris Pine among the names likely to sign. No surprise that studio giant Disney is behind this one, which is produced by John DeLuca and Rob Marshall.

The original Tony-winning stage show has music and lyrics by much-garlanded American lyricist and composer Stephen Sondheim, with book by James Lapine; the latter has also written the screenplay for the film.
