Our History

The Knowledge first published

The very first edition of The Knowledge was first published by a group of three experienced production managers who pooled their industry expertise and contacts to create what would become quickly known as the 'industry bible' for production professionals.

Pocket Knowledge - Knowledge on the go

In addition to celebrating its 10th anniversary, 1996 sees The Knowledge publish 'Pocket Knowledge', the portable version of The Knowledge directory with contact information for thousands of crew and companies. In the days before the internet and smartphones*, it was small and light enough to just pop in your bag and bring it on set.

*Did you know that TheKnowledgeOnline.com is fully compatible with modern smartphones? Never be without a contact when away from the office again!

TheKnowledgeOnline.com launches

TheKnowledgeOnline.com was first launched in 1998. Initially only for paid subscribers to The Knowledge print directory, TheKnowledgeOnline.com is now completely free of charge for users to access.

Richard manages editorial tasks for The Knowledge, Knowledge Bulletin and Knowledge on The Lot. A lot like juggling oranges. At times the oranges threaten to turn into chainsaws, but he tries to remain calm and avoid injury.

Among Richard's addictions are guitar playing, woodwork and tea.

Lainey, she's the theatrical one, steers the good ship PI and, tenaciously as a newshound, seeks up to the minute intelligence from the world of film and TV. When not looking for leads, Lainey can often be found at the theatre, watching the play or propping up the bar.

Nia spent eighteen years tangling with the high flying egos of celebrities and their publicists before alighting at Wilmington over five years ago. Here her research skills are put to good use as she digs for, unearths and verifies film and TV news. She is very much a people person, as long as 'the people' are to be found in her favourite wine bars…

Carly Jones Editorial Assistant

Carly is the lynchpin that holds the PI and Knowledge editorial teams together. She steers the PI researchers in the right direction with the database whilst lurking in the shadows ready to clear up the debris left in their wake.

When not helping the less fortunate, she can be found curled up with Welsh cakes, tea and a book (if she's not asleep).

Paul Banks TV Researcher

They went up there alive and came back down dead! Did you notice that? The difference, I mean: alive, dead, dead, alive, that sort of thing? It wasn't difficult to spot.

Hannah is jointly responsible for production intelligence subscriptions. Sounds impressive doesn't it. She thinks so. What it involves is exactly what it says on the tin- selling subscriptions for the amazing Production Intelligence. When she's not throwing herself out of aeroplanes, and other such dangerous stuff she will often attend some theatre or performance in London town. A performer at heart after studying theatre and performing arts at Uni so loves all that thespian and cultural stuff.
